Dear colleagues,

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Pakistan has risen and expanded sharply during the last two decades. OMSs from their minor oral surgery roots have been able to expand their scope to include facial trauma, facial deformity, TMJ and maxillofacial oncology and reconstruction. Both hospital and university-based training programs are now running, with a robust human resource being trained for future.
In the early 1990s with less than 30 members of PAOMS nationally, our association now has more than 300 members and twice the number of residents; which signifies the future of our specialty.
After a large gap caused by the Covid pandemic, we at the council of PAOMS have announced the 13th Pakistan Conference on Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry, Rawalpindi- Pakistan. Rawalpindi is a twin city of Islamabad, which is a beautiful city and the capital of Pakistan. The conference dates are 21st to 23rd October 2022 (Friday- Sunday) with 19th and 20th October reserved for pre conference workshops/activities, and 24th October reserved for post conference workshop/activities.
The PCOMS is a popular event, with a pre covid conference at the same venue attracting more than 800 participants in 2018. Our conservative estimate for this year is an attendance of more than 1000 participants. The conference platform will allow ample opportunities for networking and specialty camaraderie besides a rich educative experience with more than 14 international speakers from around the globe. Besides pre and post conference workshops on various topics, an AOCMF advanced symposium on orthognathic surgery is being planned. Our national speakers will have a platform to showcase their work, along with a NextGen session from our young surgeons and a poster competition.

The PAOMS will also showcase its newly launched series of association souvenirs at the conference, and the proceeds from this will go towards the development of the specialty through the association. The organizing committee has worked hard to weave together an exciting scientific program with plans for a social get together on the second day of the conference.

At behalf of the Organizing committee, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 13th Annual Pakistan Conference on Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery 2022. After Covid restrictions, this is going to be the first major ‘onsite activity’ of Oral &Maxillofacial Surgeons in Pakistan. Having mostly interacted via online meetings over the past more than two years, this conference will be a happy and delightful return to Face-to -Face meetings.

We have arranged a great scientific program with state-of-the-art presentations by both national and international speakers from around the world. A total of more than 13 distinguished names of the specialty are invited and will be interacting with you over the three days of the conference. These presentations will be supplemented by pre- and post-conference hands on workshops facilitated by eminent surgeons from within Pakistan as well as by the foreign faculty. And if you think it is academic discussions only, there are surprises for you. There will be surprise gifts for the most interested participants. There will be local tours and outings for accompanying persons. And not to forget is the Gala Dinner with its musical show.

All in all, I would like to assure you that you will find it professionally fulfilling and entertainment-wise enjoyable.
